The Chinese Grand Prix was thrown into early chaos after Lance Stroll stopped on track at Turn 1forcing race control to deploy the Safety Car.
The Aston Martin F1 Team driver appeared to suffer a mechanical issuebringing his car to a halt early in the race around lap 10–11. While there were no major crash reports, the stoppage left the car stranded near the corner, prompting immediate yellow flags before the Safety Car was sent out.
Strategy chaos after Safety Car
The Safety Car dramatically reshaped race strategy across the grid.
Several drivers took advantage of the neutralised race to dive into the pitsswitching tyres—particularly those running medium compounds moving to hard tyres to extend their race stints.
Teams at the front also reacted quickly, with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell reportedly making double pit stopscreating a temporary reshuffle in the running order.
During the pit cycle, Franco Colapinto briefly moved up into second placewhile Carlos Sainz had already completed a pit stop just before the incident, leaving him with mixed fortunes as the field bunched up behind the Safety Car.
Early drama continues in Shanghai
The race has already seen several incidents and technical issues earlier in the day, including multiple pre-race non-starters that reduced the starting grid.
Stroll’s retirement adds another twist to an already unpredictable race in Shanghai, with strategy and tyre management now set to play a crucial role once racing resumes.
