Man orders meal at Wetherspoons but problem arises when it's put before him

When a man ordered a meal at Wetherspoons, he thought he'd be in for a treat, as it's usually somewhere you can rely on getting good quality food with no fuss. However, he was left disappointed when the food was placed in front of him, leading to confusion about what had gone wrong.

Wetherspoons is cheap and cheerful, and it's usually consistent in quality for a very good price- whether you're ordering food, drinks or both.

So when a plate of foodwas placed before a regular, it wasn't what he'd come to expect from his beloved pub. It comes after another customer ate at the pub chain for an entire week.

He asked: "What happened?! Usually we've had decent grub, but today was incredibly lacking - apparently don't even do pints in juice anymore! (Though I am [in] Aberdeen, so I'm not completely surprised)".

He shared a picture on Reddit's Wetherspoons forum, showing the burger, chips, and onion rings - and suffice to say, the chips looked a little lacklustre.

In the comments, people tried to reason why the chips may look like this. Someone wrote: "Maybe their fryer broke, so they tried cooking them in the oven instead. Those don't look fried to me".

Another responded: "Yeah, there's the blackened edges of oven chips there. Or air fried. I'd guess the fryer broke as you said, and since chips are on half the menu, it was either do them in the oven or stop doing food".

Somebody who claimed to work at Wetherspoons explained: "We had a batch issue with our chips today - they were coming out extremely dark and burnt, so a batch issue with the chips may well be company-wide".

When it came to doing pints of juice, they explained that they were still doing them at their branch, and a second added that in London, they were doing them still, but you had to "pay 20p extra". What you pay depends on where you are in the country.

A man shared: "I’ve just found this thread after searching for any information about the chips changing at Spoons. In Shepherd's Bush, London, we also had these awful chips!! Something is going on, definitely weren’t those delicious fried chips we usually get".

The original poster said that his onion rings weren't up to standard, either, saying that they were "soggy", so they were left less than impressed.

They also wrote: "Apart from the patty being a little burnt, the burger was still decent - that onion ring though, I'm glad they only gave me one. I drenched the chips in sauce".

However, some said that they thought the meal "looked good" and they weren't sure why he was complaining about it.

Wetherspoons has been contacted for comment, but the website states: "Wetherspoons menus offer something for every taste. However, it is not just choice and variety which are important – a key priority is the quality of the food offered.

"We are committed to sourcing the best-quality ingredients, with menus which offer an enticing mix of traditional British meals, including regional dishes, along with popular and innovative international dishes."
