Panda Facts: You all might know Po from the movie Kung-Fu Panda, but in real life too, pandas are equally interesting and entertaining. Panda is called nature’s lazy superstar. They belong to the bear species but their habits and eating habits make them the most unique creatures in the world.
Chubby body, dark circles around the eyes and innocent actions bring a smile on the face as soon as one sees the panda. But do you know that a panda is smaller than a mouse when it is born? National Panda Day is celebrated every year on 16 March with the main objective of raising global awareness about the conservation of pandas, their habitat and endangered status. On this special day, we are going to tell you some interesting things to Panda.
Mahabali in matters of food
The main food of panda is bamboo. An adult panda spends about 12 to 14 hours a day just eating. They can eat 12 to 38 kg of bamboo in a day. Bamboo has few nutrients so they have to eat such large amounts of food to maintain their energy.
size at birth
You will be surprised to know that when a Giant Panda is born, its weight is only around 100 grams. He is smaller than a mouse, pink, blind and hairless. A baby is approximately 900 times smaller than its mother’s weight.
Sixth Finger Engineering Game
Pandas have a special pseudo-thumb to hold and peel bamboo. It is actually a part of his wrist bone that has grown over time. This thumb helps them to hold bamboo shoots firmly.

The secret of black and white patches on the body
The white and black color of panda is not just for fashion but it helps them camouflage in nature. The white part helps them hide in the snow and the black part helps them hide in dense shade or forests. The dark circles near the eyes also help in identifying each other and scaring the opponents.
height of laziness
Pandas know how to climb trees and swim well but they like to spend very little energy. Half of their day is spent in eating and the other half is spent in sleeping. They can sleep anywhere on the ground, in bushes or by balancing on a thin branch of a tree.
I like to be alone
Unlike humans, pandas do not like crowds. They are solitary creatures. They mark their territory with their smell so that other pandas do not come there. They come in contact with each other only during the breeding season.
Big win for conservation
Till a few years ago, pandas were on the endangered list but due to China’s strict conservation efforts, their population has now increased. Now they have been kept in unsafe category. This is a huge achievement for wildlife lovers.
Pandas are not only important to the ecosystem but they are also a global symbol of peace and cuteness. It is our duty to protect them so that future generations can also see this cute giant.
