The escalating tensions in the Middle East have now begun to impact the education system as well. In light of this, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has decided to cancel the ICSE and ISC board examinations scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This decision has been taken with the safety and security of Class 10 and 12 students in mind. According to the Board, conducting examinations at the designated centers is not feasible under the current circumstances.
Consequently, the students' results will now be prepared based on an alternative assessment system. The Board has assured that the results of the affected students will be declared simultaneously with those of students in India.
Results to be Prepared via Alternative Assessment
Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Chief Executive and Secretary of CISCE, stated that despite the cancellation of the examinations, the students' results will indeed be declared. To this end, an alternative assessment methodology will be adopted.
This assessment will likely incorporate internal examinations conducted by schools, practical assessments, and other academic records. However, detailed information regarding the entire process will be released at a later date. The Board has also clarified that the results for students in the UAE will be announced concurrently with those of students in India.
Dissatisfied Students to be Given a Chance for Improvement Exams
Offering relief to the students, the Board has stated that if any student is dissatisfied with the marks awarded based on the alternative assessment, they will be allowed to appear for an improvement examination. This examination will be conducted once the situation in the region normalizes and it is deemed safe to hold examinations. This will provide students with a chance to improve their scores.
Decision Taken Due to Security Situation
It has been reported that CISCE took this decision after reviewing the prevailing situation in the region. During this process, consultations were held with several entities, including Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and the Consulate General of India. Meanwhile, the spring holidays for schools and universities in the UAE have also been advanced, now scheduled to run from March 9 to March 22. School administrations have been instructed to inform students and parents about the cancellation of the examinations and the subsequent procedures. Furthermore, they have been directed to provide necessary guidance and support to the students.
