Bengaluru: A 15-year-old boy died after accidentally falling from a height of about 40 feet from an abandoned building while attempting a photoshoot with friends in the limits of the Annapoorneshwarinagar Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Nishanth (15), a resident of Ullal. Police said the incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Saturday. A case has been registered and an investigation has been launched.

According to police, one of Nishanth’s friends had earlier told him about an old bungalow located in the area under the Annapoorneshwarinagar limits, saying it was a good location for photoshoots.

After completing their Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 examinations at a private school, Nishanth and two of his friends went to the abandoned building around 5.30 pm on Saturday to take photos.

The three boys reportedly explored the building and climbed up to the second floor. Nishanth then went to a tower-like structure on the building that was about 10 feet high. Police said his friends warned him not to go there as it was dangerous. However, he stood there and asked his friends to take photographs while he posed.

After the photos were taken, Nishanth tried to climb down. Plastic sheets had been placed at some places on the structure to allow light inside the building. Unaware of this, he stepped on one of the sheets, lost his balance and fell from a height of around 40 feet, suffering serious injuries.

Shocked by the incident, the two friends called other friends for help and rushed Nishanth to a nearby hospital. Doctors examined him and declared that he had died on the way to the hospital.

Police later visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s father, an unnatural death case has been registered at the Annapoorneshwarinagar Police Station and further investigation is underway.
