Charity shops can be an absolute treasure trove of finds, from vintage and designer clothing, to rare records, retro toys, and almost anything else you can imagine.

One woman who searches charity shops for bargains and sells them on re-selling platform Vinted was in tears of laughter when she found the pockets of a vintage jacket she had unearthed were full of items more than 25 year old. Lucy Pollard shared what she had discovered on TikTok, with some of the finds relating to businesses which don't even exist any more.

Opening her video, Lucy says: "I've just found some crazy bits in the pocket of a leather jacket that I listed on Vinted, and I just needed to share with TikTok. So, it seems the era was the end of 2004 to the start of 2005."

  • Restaurant's ridiculously generous loyalty deal forces it to close in just two weeks

Laughing as she holds up the first item, Lucy says: "This is a Blockbuster Video registration form from 2004, November 2004. I mean, I've got someone's full name and address here. Phone number, landline obviously. That's so fun." Reading the text at the bottom of the form, she says: "'Thank you and welcome to Blockbuster'. Amazing."

Blockbuster Video was huge in the 1990s and 2000, but was hit hard by the rise of digital streaming. The company's final branch in the UK closed in 2013, and there is currently only one remaining store in the whole world, in Bend, Oregon.

Showing more of the items, Lucy continues: "What else? A Boots receipt. An old Boots receipt with Pudsey Bear on the back. That was also November 2004." She also finds what appear to be three blue toy coins, a small matchbook, and two packets of Orbit chewing gum, which she calls "so retro".

Holding up another receipt, she says: "What else? An Asda one that's got cat litter on it. That's the only thing they bought. Cat litter was £1.25 in 2004, in case anyone buys cat litter now and knows how much it costs now."

Laughing as she holds up another receipt from a now-defunct retailer, Lucy says: "Netto! There is so much in here. Paid cash. The week after in 2004. They obviously didn't clear out their pockets at all." Netto was discount supermarket chain which opened in the UK in 1990, but closed down in 2016.

Lucy also finds a HSBC bank statement, saying "gonna have to shred this", and a bus ticket from November 2004, with a fare of 70p. "I wonder where they went for 70p," she said.

She also finds an Eid newsletter, and a promotion leaflet for a holiday resort. "It's only aimed at high profile couples," she says. "So they were obviously a high profile couple." She laughs as she shows the reverse of the leaflet, which offers a DVD player with a karaoke function as part of the promotion.

She then holds up what appears to be a school worksheet with blank clock faces on and instructions to draw arms on at particular times. Turning it around to show the back, where someone has made a little doodle, she says: "It's got a very cute little ghost monster with fangs on the back."

Concluding, Lucy said: "And finally, the classic," holding up what appears to be a used tissue with a grimace.

People were amazed at the finds. One said: "What a fascinating peep into someone’s mundane life! That was entertaining." Replying, Lucy said: "I had a great time looking through it too. Who knew a 20-year-old Netto receipt could be so entertaining!"

Another said: "Awwww Blockbuster video! Miss that place." And someone else wrote: "Me crying at my £18.99 cat litter." A different user wrote: "Makes me sad that what literally feels like about a year ago is called retro and should be put in a museum."
