Amid concerns over gas supply management, the Gujarat government has announced several key measures to ensure smooth fuel distribution across the state. During a press conference held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Food and Civil Supplies Principal SecretaryMona Khandhar stated that there is currently adequate availability of domestic LPG cylinders, and the state is continuously increasing its buffer stock.
The government has also advised citizens facing any gas-related issues to contact the official helpline number 1800-232-0222.
Deadline for Consumers With Both PNG and LPG Connections
In a major directive, the state government has ordered that consumers who have both PNG (piped natural gas) and LPG cylinder connections must surrender their LPG connection by Wednesday.
Officials said the move aims to bring greater transparency to the gas distribution system and ensure that LPG cylinders are prioritized for households that do not have access to pipeline gas. At the same time, the government is accelerating efforts to shift both domestic and commercial consumers from LPG to PNG wherever possible.
20% Increase in Gas Supply and New LPG Connection Policy
To maintain stable fuel availability, the government has increased the overall gas supply by around 20 percent.
In areas where PNG pipelines have not yet reached, authorities have decided to issue new LPG connections up to a 70 percent capacity limit. Additionally, under a social responsibility initiative, religious institutions that have been providing continuous food services for at least one year will be allowed commercial gas connections within a 10 percent allocation limit.
Kerosene Allocation for Rural Areas
As an alternative fuel arrangement, the state has also introduced kerosene distribution in rural regions.
Out of the 14.52 lakh litres of kerosene received from the Central Government, each district has been allocated 36,000 litres. Under this system, needy households will receive up to 5 litres, while institutions will be provided 25 litres, helping areas facing fuel shortages.
New Gas Allocation Rules for Institutions and Businesses
The government has also clarified fresh allocation guidelines for commercial users.
Essential services such as hospitals and educational institutions will receive 100 percent gas supply. Meanwhile, sectors like pharmaceutical companies, dairy units, and railway canteens will be provided 70 percent supply.
Semi-essential sectors including hotels, restaurants, and corporate canteens will receive commercial gas with a 10 percent cap, ensuring that economic activities continue while maintaining fuel balance.
Strict Monitoring of Gas Distribution
To prevent irregularities in gas distribution, officials from the revenue and police departments have been deployed at gas agencies across the state.
Authorities said inspections have been conducted at multiple locations over the past 12 days, with strict monitoring in place. To prevent shortages in urban areas, LPG delivery vans have also been granted special permission to operate during daytime hours.
