24 Speed Post: The Department of Posts is set to launch the ‘24 Speed Post’ service starting March 17, 2026. Under this initiative, parcels will be delivered within 24 hours across six cities, including Delhi and Mumbai. Customers will also be entitled to a refund in the event of a delay.
24 Speed Post: People will no longer have to wait for several days for urgent parcels sent via the post office. The Department of Posts is introducing a new, expedited delivery service effective March 17, 2026. Under this new facility, parcels destined for designated cities will be delivered within just 24 hours. This will be particularly beneficial for individuals who need to dispatch urgent documents, goods, or parcels immediately.
This new service has been named ‘24 Speed Post.’ It will be launched by the Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the Minister of State for Communications, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani. The launch ceremony will be held at the Rang Bhavan Auditorium within Akashvani Bhavan, where several senior officials from the Department of Posts will also be in attendance.
Initial Availability in These Cities
Initially, this service will be rolled out in six major cities across the country. These include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The objective is to deliver parcels sent between these cities by the very next day—that is, within 24 hours. Additionally, customers will have the option to choose a 48-hour delivery window. To ensure expedited delivery, parcels will be processed on a priority basis and, in many instances, transported via air routes.
Secure Delivery via OTP
Special attention has also been paid to security within this service. An OTP-based system will be implemented at the time of parcel delivery. This means that the recipient must provide the OTP received on their mobile phone to the delivery agent before the delivery can be successfully completed.
Furthermore, customers will receive comprehensive updates regarding their parcels through SMS alerts and online tracking facilities. The new service also offers a range of features tailored for business users. Merchants will benefit from amenities such as free pickup for bulk orders, Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options, API integration, and centralized billing services. Most notably, a provision has also been made to refund customers’ money if a parcel is not delivered within the stipulated time. The government hopes that this new initiative will make India Post’s parcel delivery service faster, more secure, and more reliable than ever before.
