Lucknow, Read: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is running a mission to make the youth skilled. Under the Skill India Mission (SIM), a huge network of skill development training has been created across the country. The training campaign is going on at 85,111 centers of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITI). From the inception of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana to 31 December 2025 through other schemes, more than 3.57 crore young men and women have been trained in various subjects.

Jayant Chaudhary, Minister-Independent Charge of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the Central Government, has shared this information in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

Presenting the report card of skill development schemes, Jayant Chaudhary said that, NITI Aayog had evaluated the PMKVI scheme in 2020. In the survey, 94 percent of the employers (companies) said that they would give priority to the youth trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana for jobs. Not only this, the fact of giving higher pay scale to trained youth than the general candidates has also come to light. An evaluation of Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) revealed that it helped in doubling the family income of the youth who took the training.

The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was evaluated in 2021. The study found that the employability of the youth who received training has increased.

Emphasis on AI and robotics

In the third and fourth phase of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, special short and brilliant modules focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Drones and new generation technologies were introduced. Apart from meeting the needs of the industries and accelerating digital transformation, the objective is to prepare the workforce for the future.
