Strong winds and rain cause damage in Subrahmanya, power disruptions reported

Subrahmanya: Strong winds and rain on Sunday evening caused damage in several areas around Subrahmanya, resulting in losses worth lakhs of rupees.

A coconut tree fell on a house belonging to Raviraj Kiribhaga in Balugodu village, damaging the roof. The family members escaped without injuries. Near the Subrahmanya Savari Mantapa, a tree fell across the road and was later cleared by the gram panchayat.

In the Subrahmanya MESCOM limits, more than eight electric poles were damaged due to the strong winds, leading to power outages in several areas. Locations including Savari Mantapa, Madabakilu, Bettumakki and Balugodu were affected. Repair work is currently underway by MESCOM officials. Several arecanut and coconut trees were also uprooted in different places.

Heavy rainfall was reported in parts of Sullia taluk, including Bellare and Kalmadka.

Rain reported across Dakshina Kannada district

Mangaluru: Rainfall was recorded in various parts of Dakshina Kannada district on Monday. Thunderstorms were reported in Belthangady, Dharmasthala, Ujire, Mundaje, Guruvayanakere, Shishila, Arasinamakki and Kashibettu.

Moderate rainfall was also reported in Moodbidri and parts of Bantwal taluk, including BC Road, Mani, Barimaru, Kalladka, Sarapady, Maninalkuru and Navoor. Rain was also recorded in Subrahmanya, Uppinangady and Ujire regions, as well as Panaje and Bettampady in Puttur taluk.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a yellow alert has been issued in the district until March 20, with chances of continued rainfall.

On Monday, Mangaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.9 degrees Celsius.
