Afghanistan cricket stars Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have strongly condemned the alleged Pakistani airstrike in Kabul that reportedly targeted a hospital, leading to a significant number of civilian casualties. The two cricketers expressed their outrage on social media in the wake of the incident.
Afghan authorities claim that a Pakistani airstrike hit the Omar Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul late on Monday night. Rashid Khan, the former captain of Afghanistan’s T20I team, voiced his disapproval on X, stating that any attack on civilian infrastructure is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
He highlighted that striking civilian targets, whether deliberate or accidental, is a grave violation of international law.
Similarly, veteran Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi shared a heartfelt message on social media, mourning the lives lost in the attack.
According to Afghan officials, the strike targeted the Omar Addiction Treatment Hospital, a major facility dedicated to helping individuals with drug addiction, around 9 PM local time. The attack caused widespread destruction to the 2,000-bed hospital. Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesperson for the Afghan government, confirmed that at least 400 people were killed, with an additional 250 injured.
Videos and photos shared on social media and aired on local news channels showed emergency teams using flashlights, while firefighters working hard to contain the flames that engulfed the hospital.
