The city of Ayodhya is undergoing extensive preparations ahead of the proposed visit of President Droupadi Murmu on March 19. Local authorities, in coordination with the state’s culture department and district administration, are organizing a series of cultural events intended to offer a traditional welcome along the route leading to the Ram Mandir.
According to officials, nearly 20 temporary stages are being set up from the airport to the temple परिसर, where approximately 250 artists will perform throughout the President’s journey. These stages will be distributed across key points in the city, including prominent intersections and roadways, to ensure that cultural presentations are visible along the entire स्वागत मार्ग.
The performances are expected to reflect themes drawn from the Ramayana and regional traditions. Artists from multiple districts across Uttar Pradesh have been invited to participate, bringing a mix of folk music, devotional songs, and dance forms. Programmes will include bhajans, traditional welcome songs, Awadhi folk performances, and dramatic depictions inspired by episodes from the Ramayana.
In addition to stage performances, the event will also feature elements such as drum ensembles, conch shell recitations, and Vedic chanting. Organizers aim to present a broad representation of the region’s religious and cultural heritage, combining both classical and folk traditions.
The arrangements follow directions issued by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with local officials overseeing logistical planning, artist coordination, and route decoration. Teams of varying sizes will perform at different stages, with smaller groups assigned to compact setups and larger ensembles designated for major junctions.
Public spaces across Ayodhya are also being decorated to align with the cultural theme of the visit. Officials say the initiative is intended not only as a ceremonial स्वागत but also as an opportunity to highlight the city’s longstanding traditions to a wider audience.
The visit is expected to draw attention to Ayodhya’s evolving role as both a धार्मिक and cultural destination, while also showcasing local art forms rooted in the Awadhi region.
