LPG cylinder
Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the resulting concerns over LPG supply, scammers have started targeting residents in Delhi with phishing messages and fraudulent APK files related to LPG cylinder bookings, the Delhi Police said on Monday. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unknown files.

Police officials said alerts have already been shared on social media platforms, and personnel have also been deployed in residential areas to raise awareness about the scam.

Surge in Fake Messages Reported

According to police, several complaints have recently been received through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 regarding suspicious messages related to LPG services. In response, all district police chiefs have been instructed to issue public advisories warning people about the scam.

Users on social media platforms such as X and Facebook have also reported receiving bulk SMS messages from sender names like LPG, Indane, LPG FAST, and others.

Fraudsters Using Fake Websites

A senior officer from the crime branch said police were alerted after social media users reported suspicious messages including: “Your LPG KYC is pending. Limited stock. Click here to update and order”, “Aadhaar link pending for your LPG. Verify now to update!” and “Immediate payment required to continue connection. Avoid LPG disconnection. Click on link.”

The officer added that fraudsters have created fake websites using the names of well-known LPG companies such as Indane and HP. Some of the fraudulent domains identified include “bookLPGfast.com”, “lpg-booking.com” and others.

“We have removed and blocked all these sites as soon as we are alerted. Our social media team is already working to identify such scammers and prevent such frauds,” he said.

Police Urge Residents to Stay Alert

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Ashish Mishra also advised citizens to remain cautious and avoid engaging with suspicious messages or links.

Police officials said awareness campaigns are being conducted through videos, advertisements, and detailed graphics explaining how such scams operate and how residents can protect themselves.

How to Report Cyber Fraud

Authorities have urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity related to LPG booking scams. Complaints can be registered through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or on the official website cybercrime.gov.in.
