Anil Kumble, the former Indian cricket star, has expressed his approval of the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) decision to acquire Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. Kumble believes that Samson is an ideal addition to the team. In this trade, CSK has sent Sam Curran and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to RR, while welcoming Samson, who has been a key player for the Royals for over a decade.
Kumble Highlights Samson's Fit for CSK
During a discussion on JioStar, Kumble emphasized the legacy of Indian cricket, mentioning legends such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni, and how the sport is evolving through generations. He pointed out that Samson's background from Kerala, his ability to speak Tamil, and his role as a wicketkeeper-batter make him a perfect match for CSK. Kumble remarked, "The transition of icons in Indian cricket has been remarkable, and Sanju's inclusion is a significant step for CSK, especially with his recent outstanding performances leading up to the IPL and his contributions to India's World Cup success."
Samson's Leadership Potential
Kumble also suggested that Sanju Samson could take on a vice-captaincy role at CSK, given his extensive leadership experience with the Rajasthan Royals. He stated, "Sanju is well-equipped for this role, having captained Rajasthan for several seasons. CSK will benefit from his leadership qualities, especially considering the challenges they faced last season with captaincy changes due to injuries. While Ruturaj has been identified as the captain, Sanju's presence could be crucial if Ruturaj is unavailable." Kumble speculated that MS Dhoni might even assign Samson the wicketkeeping duties during the season, further integrating him into the leadership framework.
