A Thai family is pursuing legal action against a hotel in China’s Shanghai after discovering a man, believed to be a staff member, hiding inside their room.

The incident came to light after Thai national Yatida Siriwangchai shared videos on TikTok on March 3, showing a man lying in a narrow space between a bed and the wall, apparently attempting to conceal himself.

In the footage, Yatida is heard questioning how the man entered the room and asking for his identity. However, the family was unable to communicate with him due to language barrier.

Thai social media users who said they understood Chinese later interpreted the man’s explanation as a claim that he had entered the wrong room by mistake.

Yatida said she was certain the room had been locked before the family left and that she had double-checked the door, Tiger reported.

She suspected the man may have used a spare keycard, suggesting he could be a hotel employee, ASEAN Now Official reported.

The incident has sparked widespread concern online, with some Thai netizens questioning the explanation and speculating the man may have intended to steal valuables before being interrupted.

Others raised more serious concerns, including the possibility that he may have planned to install a hidden camera or commit a sexual offence.

The family is now seeking legal recourse as questions remain over hotel security and guest safety.
