Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar has criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not contesting the elections from the Nandigram constituency, where she faced defeat against BJP's Suvendu Adhikari in 2021. Majumdar asserted that Banerjee lacks the courage to run from Nandigram, suggesting that her previous loss in Bhabanipur would mark the end of her political journey.

He further claimed that since Banerjee lost in Nandigram last time, she would not dare to contest again, predicting another defeat. Majumdar emphasized that the public is ready to completely wipe out her party this time.

In the 2021 assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee lost the Nandigram seat to Suvendu Adhikari but later secured victory in the Bhabanipur by-election against Priyanka Tibrewal. The upcoming elections in West Bengal will see a contest between Adhikari and Banerjee for the Bhabanipur seat, while Adhikari aims to retain his hold on Nandigram.

West Bengal BJP President and MP Samik Bhattacharya expressed confidence in Adhikari's victory, questioning why Banerjee has chosen to avoid the Nandigram seat this time. He predicted that Adhikari would win Bhabanipur by a margin of 25,000 votes.

The West Bengal assembly elections are scheduled to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting of votes set for May 4. The election process is expected to conclude by May 6.

TMC Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya has been nominated from the Dum Dum North seat, while Madan Mitra will contest from the Kamakhyaguri seat. Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim is set to run from the Kolkata Port seat, Kunal Ghosh from the Beleghata seat, and Shashi Panja from the Shyampukur seat.
