A bargain hunter has shared how she bagged a designer handbag for just £10 in a charity shop. Holly Wood discovered the Kate Spade New York Hyde Place Sayra Flap Front Crossbody bag while browsing in her local store – and was stunned by her luck.
The same style iscurrently listed on resale sites for around £300, making her bargain even more impressive. The 39-year-old, from Manchester, frequently posts her charity shop and Vinted purchases with her 32,000 followers on TikTok. In a video that has accumulated over 144,000 views, Holly displayed her extraordinary discovery.
She said: "My favourite item is this – look how gorgeous. I spotted it across the shelf because of this, I think they call it pony hair. This was £10 and it's Kate Spade New York. It's got this slight grain to the leather – black with burgundy."

Another wrote: "Wow – both bags are stunning, you must be over the moon." A third added: "I need to know which charity shops you're visiting – some amazing hauls."
Someone else commented: "The last handbag is gorgeous, I think that's my favourite item." And another said: "Another incredible haul. Love the Kate Spade bag – it's stunning."
More ways to secure charity shop treasures1. Pick the right location – Charity shops in wealthier areas (e.g., Chelsea, Hampstead, Richmond in London, Didsbury in Manchester, Clifton in Bristol) are more likely to receive high-end donations.
2. Visit regularly – New items come in daily or weekly. The more often you visit, the better your chances. Some also believe visiting in the morning is a good strategy as it could be when stores are restocking – especially after weekends.
3. Look for clues – Familiarise yourself with designer brands and their labels (font, stitching, country of manufacture). You can also look up serial numbers and holograms to check the authenticity of the items.
4. Take your time – Don't just expect to walk into a charity shop and find what you're looking for straight away. Hunt through all the different aisles, cabinets and boxes to find the best hidden gems.
5. Ask staff – Struggling to find anything appealing? Don't be afraid to ask employees for help. Some shops have a "designer" or "premium" rail, so it's definitely worth enquiring.
