Kolkata Knight Riders bought Cameron Green for INR 25.20 crore in the mini-auction. However, former Australia batter and India head coach Greg Chappell has raised concerns over the all-rounder’s form, saying Green hasn’t been able to score runs because he gets stuck in the crease and cannot move. Chappell commented ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where the renowned cricketer will play for the three-time champions.

However, despite scoring a hundred in the Sheffield Shield against New South Wales, Chappell is not convinced.

Chappell mentioned Green’s bowling has impacted his batting. According to him, Green can still become one of the best all-rounders, but a lot will depend on his decisions, mental strength and the quality of suggestions he is receiving.

“He is not batting well because of his bowling. He can still be one of the greatest all-rounders because he has the skills and talent, but it will depend on his decision, mental skills, and whether he is getting the right suggestions, Chappell told ANI.

“When I saw him for the first time, he had a beautiful setup and was able to move in the crease. However, he now gets stuck at the crease and cannot move when needed. He is not using his athleticism and reach to score runs,” he added.

During the T20 World Cup 2026, he was among the flops and couldn’t justify his presence in the middle. He had a task of proving himself after signing a blockbuster deal and also lead the next generation of Australian cricketers. With 24 runs in three innings and just one wicket in the global tournament, the 26-year-old was a big disappointment.

In the three-match series against Pakistan before the T20 World Cup, he amassed 93 runs at an average of 31.00, a strike rate above 124.

Green has played 37 Tests and posted 1,736 runs at an average of 32.75, including two hundreds and seven half-centuries. His last ton in red-ball cricket came against New Zealand in 2024, a well-compiled 174 at the No.4 spot.

In the five-Test Ashes series against England, he accumulated 171 runs in eight innings at an average of 24.42, with a top score of 45. Despite his promise, Green hasn’t set the stage on fire in international cricket, and KKR will be hoping to get the best out of him when he dons their jersey in the new edition of the cash-rich league.
