The weather took a turn in Delhi since Thursday morning and pleasant weather like that of the capital Mussoorie was seen. Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds started, creating cold air and humid atmosphere in the entire city. While people enjoyed the rain, describing the weather as pleasant, they have been advised to be cautious while driving and road traffic. During this period, the effect of winds was more visible than rain, winds blew at a speed of about 60 kilometers per hour. Dust storms also troubled people.

IMD issued yellow alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in Delhi and surrounding areas. According to the Meteorological Department, strong winds, thunderstorms and rain are likely to continue in the capital on March 19 and 20. The department has advised citizens to take precautions, especially during strong winds and storms, to stay away from open places and take necessary steps to stay safe. This weather condition has also affected air traffic. According to information, 22 flights were diverted at Delhi airport and many flights were delayed.

Where and how much rain occurred?

The weather remained pleasant in Delhi on Thursday amidst strong winds and rain. According to IMD (Indian Metrological Department), the amount of rain recorded till Thursday in different parts of the capital was as follows: Safdarjung – 8.2 mm, Lodhi Road – 8.2 mm, Ridge Center – 8.6 mm, Palam – 6.2 mm, Iyengar – 7.2 mm, Pitampura – 5.5 mm, 3 mm rain in Mayur Vihar and 12.5 mm rain in Janakpuri in the last 24 hours. Was registered. The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature recorded in the capital was 17.6°C, which is 1.1 degrees above normal. At the same time, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 29°C.

Air pollution situation in Delhi

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate category on Thursday morning. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 153 at 9 am. As per CPCB norms 0–50: Good, 51–100: Satisfactory, 101–200: Moderate, 201–300: Poor, 301–400: Very poor, 401–500: Severe.

When will summer return?

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is currently some relief in temperature due to rain, clouds and western disturbance in Delhi and NCR. At present the minimum temperature remains around 17–18°C. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 29°C. However, IMD has warned that this relief from coolness and rain will not last long. The temperature will start rising once again from March 22, due to which the weather may feel hotter than normal.
