According to Swampthe 43-year-old actress drew public attention after discussing the reasons behind her split from Ma in a video posted on social media on March 15. The couple married in 2007 and welcomed their first child the same year, followed by a second son in 2009. Wu said Ma had suggested she quit her job at the time to stay home and care for their children and family.
Wu said she initially found the arrangement reasonable and stepped away from acting to focus on raising her children. Over time, however, tensions emerged, including her growing frustration as she felt she had “lost her dignity and sense of self-worth.”
“When you stay at home and depend financially on a man, he may think that everything you have comes from him, and that you should obey him,” she said. “That led to many arguments. That period was extremely painful for me. I lost my self-esteem and felt worthless, as if no one respected me.”
The couple announced their divorce in 2017. Their two sons live with Wu, while Ma provides financial support under a mutual agreement. Wu has said they remain on amicable terms and occasionally shares photos of him visiting their children.

Following the separation, Wu returned to acting, appearing in recent productions such as “Waiting for You in the Future,” “The Glorious Era,” “Love a Lifetime,” “Unbending Will” and “The Great Aerospace.”
She first rose to prominence in the 2000s with roles in “The Legend of Lu Xiaofeng,” “The Legend and the Hero” and “The Young Warriors.”
Wu was Ma’s second wife. He has a daughter from a previous marriage.
Now 64, Ma was once one of the leading actors in Chinese-language television, known for roles in series such as the 1994 adaptation of “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber,” “Plum Blossom Scar” and “Green Green Grass by the River.” In recent years, he has largely stepped back from acting, focusing on singing and television appearances.
