The Delhi High Court issued a directive on Thursday to both police and civil administration to uphold peace and security in Uttam Nagar, given the rising communal tensions in the area. Initially scheduled for Wednesday, the hearing was presided over by Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay but was postponed to Thursday.
During the proceedings, the court emphasized the importance of maintaining order and ensuring a safe environment ahead of Eid. The bench instructed local police and civil authorities to take all necessary actions permitted by law to prevent any unpleasant incidents and to foster a peaceful and dignified celebration of the festival, which is likely to occur tomorrow.
The police arrangements must instill a sense of security and protection for all citizens. Officials were also reminded to prevent any individual or group from engaging in activities that could lead to disturbances. The court urged police officials to remain vigilant and not to show leniency, noting that events in Delhi have far-reaching implications. Furthermore, the court mandated that security measures remain in place until the conclusion of the Ram Navami festival. The next hearing for this case is set for April 6.
