New Delhi. There is big news for those traveling on the highway. The government has implemented a new strict rule by making changes in the FASTag rules. Now, if for some reason the payment through FASTag is not made at the toll plaza, then the vehicle owner will be required to make the payment within the stipulated time, otherwise he will have to pay double the fine.

If payment is not made within 72 hours, you will have to pay double charge.

According to the new rule, if a vehicle passes through the barrier-free toll plaza without paying toll and does not clear the outstanding amount within 72 hours, it will be charged double the amount. That means if you do not pay on time, you will have to pay twice the original toll.

Why were these new rules brought?

The government has taken this decision so that those crossing the toll without paying can be stopped and the digital toll system can be further strengthened. Make sure to follow the rules. This change has been implemented under the amendment to the National Highway Fee rules.

Responsibility of toll agencies also fixed

Responsibility has been fixed not only on the drivers but also on the toll agencies. If the toll agency does not take action on the complaint of any consumer within 5 days, then the demand for outstanding toll will automatically be canceled in that case. That is, if the fault is of the agency and the solution is not found on time, then you can get relief.

What is ‘Unpaid User Fees’?

‘Unpaid user fee’ has been clearly defined in the amended rules. This is the toll which is not received despite the vehicle’s passing being confirmed by the electronic toll collection system. In such cases, an electronic notice will be sent to registered vehicle owners containing details of the vehicle, date and location of toll crossing, and amount payable.

These notices will be sent through SMS, email, mobile app and a special portal. Also, the National Electronic Toll Collection System will be linked to the vehicle database ‘VAHAN’, so that vehicles with outstanding amounts can be easily identified.

Always keep sufficient balance in FASTag. Keep checking transaction alerts. If there is any problem, file a complaint immediately. Make payment within 72 hours. Overall, the government has implemented new rules to make toll collection transparent and strict. With this, while action will be taken against those who break the rules, genuine users will also get protection and relief.
