New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Jordan’s King Abdullah II over phone and extended his best wishes for Eid-ul-Fitr. During this, both the leaders also discussed the rapidly changing situation and increasing tension in West Asia.

Sharing details on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said he congratulated King Abdullah II on Eid and stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to maintain peace and stability in the region.

PM Modi clearly said that the attacks on energy infrastructure in West Asia are “condemnable” and may further increase tension in the region. He said that it is important to avoid such attacks, because it can have an impact on the global level as well.

The two leaders also agreed that it is extremely important for trade and energy supply routes to continue running smoothly in the region. Apart from this, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Jordan for its cooperation in the safe return of Indian citizens trapped in the conflict.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and wished him “Hari Raya Aidilfitri”. Both the leaders expressed concern over the current situation in West Asia and stressed on intensifying dialogue and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.

The Prime Minister reiterated that India is committed to peace, security and stability and international cooperation is necessary to normalize the situation in the region.
