Introduced in May 2025, Stitch is based on Gemini 2.5 Pro, a multimodal AI model. The user simply says in plain English how the app should look, what colors to use, or how the user experience should be, and Stitch builds the UI accordingly. Apart from this, one can also convert it into a digital design by uploading a sketch, screenshot or wireframe.

Stitch has features like AI-assisted canvas, prompt-based design, creation of different design variants and rapid prototyping. Also, the facility to change the design through voice commands has also been provided. With all these features, Google is trying to bridge the gap between design and development.

Meanwhile, shares of popular design platform Figma are said to have dropped around 8.8 percent after the update. Figma is known for its highly accurate and real-time collaboration for UI/UX design. Stitch is expected to challenge traditional design tools.

However, experts differ. According to some, Stitch is currently an experimental tool, mainly useful for exploration and visual design. Some believe that AI-based tools may pose a major challenge to traditional software in the future. Overall, Stitch seems to be accelerating the impact of AI in the design field.
