World Oral Health Day 2026: In today’s time, dental problems are increasing rapidly in small children. Earlier, cavities and tooth decay were seen more in older people. At the same time, now it has become common even among young children. According to experts, the biggest reason behind this is changing lifestyle, poor eating habits and poor oral hygiene.
Dental experts say that taking children’s dental health lightly can be a big mistake, because damaged teeth at an early age can lead to permanent dental disease later on.
World Oral Health Day 2026 is being celebrated today
Today i.e. on 20 March 2026, World Oral Health Day is being celebrated all over the world. It is also called World Oral Health Day. This day officially started from 20 March 2013. This day was started by FDI. The main objective of Oral Health Day is to tell people about oral health.
What do experts say?
Dr. Zulfikar Hafeez, Senior Consultant, Dental Services, Asian Hospital, says that today’s children are eating too much sweet and processed food, due to which the risk of tooth decay is increasing rapidly. For this, parents have to understand that the diet of children directly affects the health of their teeth.
Junk food is becoming the biggest reason
The consumption of chocolate, candy, biscuits, chips and cold drinks has increased significantly among children. All of these contain high sugar, which combines with the bacteria present in the mouth to form acid. This acid damages the top layer of teeth (enamel) and gradually causes cavities. By repeatedly eating sweets, teeth do not get time to recover, due to which the damage increases rapidly.
wrong brushing habits
Many children do not brush properly or brush only once a day. Some children brush too often, due to which the teeth are not completely cleaned. The result of this is the accumulation of plaque, which eventually weakens the teeth. It is the responsibility of the parents to teach their children how to brush properly and also to monitor the process.
The most dangerous habit of sleeping after drinking milk at night!
Often, a common habit among small children is to go to sleep after drinking milk at night. Although, this habit may seem comfortable but it is harmful for the teeth. The sugar present in milk gets deposited on the teeth and promotes bacteria overnight, increasing the risk of cavities. Therefore, whenever children are fed milk, their mouths should be cleaned or watered after that.
How to protect?
According to experts, children’s teeth can be kept healthy for a long time by adopting some easy habits. Such as-
- Get brushed at least twice a day.
- Limit the intake of sweets and junk food.
- Give children healthy diet like fruits, vegetables and calcium rich diet.
- Get a dental checkup done every 6 months.
- Use toothpaste containing fluoride.
Why is it important to pay attention to time?
If care is not taken at the initial stage, tooth decay can cause serious damage to children’s teeth. This not only causes pain and infection, but also affects children’s ability to eat, drink and speak.
Important advice for oral health
Experts say that taking care of children’s teeth is not limited to just brushing, but proper eating habits, good habits and regular checkups are also equally important. If parents become alert in time, children can be saved from serious dental problems.
