Friends, if you are one of those people who is running an old iPhone or an old version of iOS, then it is important to be careful. Because cyber security researchers have discovered a new hacking campaign named DarkSword, which specifically targets users with old Apple devices. This cyber attack focuses on iPhones that are running older versions of iOS (between iOS 18.4 and iOS 18.7). Let us know the complete details
Users from some countries are at greater risk
According to cyber security reports, the DarkSword campaign has mainly targeted users from countries like Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Malaysia and Ukraine. Attackers take advantage of vulnerabilities in outdated software to gain unauthorized access to the device.
Hackers often use fake websites to spread malware. When a user visits or clicks on these websites, malware is silently installed on the device. Once inside the phone, it collects sensitive data like personal information, messages and other saved details. After stealing data, malware quickly erases all traces of its existence.
Doubt on Russian hacker group
Security experts at Lookout believe that this hacking campaign may be linked to Russian cyber group UNC6353, which has targeted iOS devices in the past. The group is known for using advanced spyware tools to exploit vulnerabilities in Apple’s operating systems.
In previous attacks by the same group, a tool called Coruna was used, which targeted iPhones running older versions of iOS (between iOS 13 and iOS 17).
