Karkala: A bike rider died on the spot after sustaining grievous injuries in a horrific road accident that occurred near Hampanakatte on the Palli-Adapadi road on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Nayak (27), a resident of Kujambailu, Hiriyadka.
On March 19, Ganesh Nayak was traveling toward Hampanakatte on his motorcycle. At this time, a tipper truck coming from behind at a high speed and in a negligent manner rammed into the bike.
The impact threw Ganesh Nayak onto the road, and the rear wheel of the tipper ran over his head. Although he was wearing a helmet, the weight of the vehicle caused fatal injuries, and Ganesh breathed his last on the spot.
A case has been registered at the Karkala Town Police Station, and the accused driver has been taken into custody.
Sole breadwinner for the family
Ganesh Nayak, who was the main support for his impoverished family, met with the accident while returning home for the Ugadi festival celebrations. Having lost his father five years ago, Ganesh was the pillar of strength for his mother and siblings. He was known for being a bright student during his school days in Hiriyadka and had secured top marks in college. He had recently completed his B.Pharm and had joined a private hospital in Mangaluru for work.
Tragedy while returning for the festival
Ganesh had taken a leave from work on Thursday to celebrate the Ugadi festival with his mother and family members. While traveling from Mangaluru to Hiriyadka via the Karkala inner road, the heavy wheels of the tipper ran over his head, leading to his instantaneous death despite wearing safety gear. He is survived by his mother and brothers.
