The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has initiated the admission process for Class 1 and ‘Bal Vatika’ (pre-primary) for the 2026-27 academic session; applications for these admissions can be submitted until April 2.
As is the case every year, hundreds of thousands of parents are currently searching for a good school to ensure a bright future for their children. Amidst this search, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has officially commenced the admission process for the 2026-27 session. Online registration began on March 20, and parents can now proceed to apply on behalf of their children. Kendriya Vidyalayas are counted among the most trusted government schools in the country, offering a conducive environment characterized by both academic excellence and strict discipline—a reputation that explains why they receive a massive volume of applications every year.
Once again, admissions for Class 1 and Bal Vatika will be conducted entirely online. Parents are required to visit the official website to fill out and submit the application form; the deadline for submission has been set for April 2, 2026. Officials have advised parents to complete their applications well in advance to avoid any last-minute complications or technical glitches.
What is the Selection System?
For admission to Class 1, neither a written examination nor an interview is conducted; instead, students are selected through a lottery system. This means that the determination of which child secures a spot depends on a combination of the established procedural framework and sheer luck. Following the lottery draw, those children whose names appear on the selection list are required to submit the necessary documents to their respective Kendriya Vidyalaya branches; once the requisite fees are paid, their admission is officially confirmed.
What is the Age Criteria?
Specific age criteria have been prescribed for admission eligibility. As of March 31, 2026, the child must be at least 6 years old but not older than 8 years. Additionally, children born on April 1st are also deemed eligible for inclusion in the admission process. Certain age relaxations are also granted to children with special needs.
Key Dates to Remember
Regarding the important dates for the admission cycle: the registration window opened on March 20 and will remain open until April 2. The first selection list will be released on April 8 or 9, while the second and third lists may be released on April 16 and 21, respectively, provided that seats remain vacant.
Reservation System?
A reservation system is also implemented in Kendriya Vidyalayas to ensure that children from every section of society receive an opportunity. 25 percent of seats are reserved under the RTE Act, 15 percent for SCs, 7.5 percent for STs, 27 percent for OBCs, and 3 percent for children with special needs.
How to Fill Out the Form
Parents must visit the website and register in the “Admission 2026” section; they then need to fill in details regarding themselves and their child, upload the necessary documents, and finally, submit the form and retain a copy for their records.
