About Surf

In Pokémon FireRed, Surf is a powerful Water-type move. It is helpful in a lot of battles, and beyond that, it’s your ticket to exploring the rest of the Kanto region. You’ll find it as HM03 inside the Secret House, far away in the deepest part of the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. The only way to get your hands on it is to reach the house before your 600-step limit runs out. Once you have it, you can teach it to most Water Pokémon. But a limitation sticks with it. You can’t actually hop on a Pokémon’s back until you defeat Koga at the Fuchsia Gym to earn the Soul Badge. Once you do so, you can also have a good flight.

Steps to get Surf in Pokémon FireRed

If you want to get Surf in Pokémon FireRed, then these are the steps that you can follow.

Enter the Safari Zone

To begin, just head to the north of Fuchsia City and pay the 500 PokéDollar entrance fee.

Navigate Area 1

From the entrance, head right and then north until you see an exit on the right side of the screen. Now comes the next.

Navigate Area 2

Follow the path to the top-left of this area, and you’ll further need to go up some stairs and around a small pond to reach the exit on the far left. Again, the next area awaits.

Navigate Area 3

For this, head west across the tall grass. You’ll finally see a small house in this section. This is the Secret House that we have been looking for.

Go Inside

Go inside the house that you just saw and talk to the man. He’ll give you HM03 just for making it there. Cool, right?

Collect the Ball

Right outside the Secret House, you’ll see an item ball. You can pick it up as it contains Gold Teeth, which you can trade to the Safari Warden back in town for HM04 – Strength.

Use Repels

Use Super Repels to avoid wild encounters. This is also important as every battle screen takes some time and can make you lose your orientation.
