
Gangaur fast 2026: Every year, Gangaur is worshiped and fasted on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Tritiya Tithi has started today at 02:31 am. This date will end at 11:57 pm. Therefore today there is fast and worship of Gangaur. Gangaur is made up of two words Gan and Gaur. In this, Lord Shiva is called Gana and Gaur is called Mother Parvati. Gangaur Vrat is dedicated to both of them.

Gangaur puja method
Wake up in Brahma Muhurta, take bath etc. and wear clean clothes. After this, clean the puja room and spread a red or yellow colored cloth on a wooden platform. Keep idols of Isar i.e. Lord Shiva and Gauri i.e. Goddess Parvati made of clay or wood. Fill a Kalash with Ganga water and place wheatgrass on it. Offer mehendi, kumkum, bangles, mangalsutra and new clothes to Mata Rani. Perform Shodashopachar puja, in which offer things like water, Akshat, flowers, incense, lamp, naivedya and fruits. Finally, perform aarti, distribute prasad and conclude your fast.
Importance of Gangaur fast
There is a religious belief that fasting and worshiping Gangaur prolongs the life of married couples. On Gangaur, women pray for a happy married life. According to the legend, Goddess Parvati observed Gangaur fast to get Lord Shankar as her husband. Gangaur festival starts after Holi. It lasts for 18 days and ends on Tritiya Tithi.
