New Delhi: An Indian resident was killed in a suspected missile attack in Riyadh on Saturday, his family alleged. The victim is identified as Ravi Gopal from Baghain village within the Mahmudabad Police Station limits.
Gopal has been working in Riyadh as a driver in a plastic factory since 2025. His family claimed that they had to give an official confirmation about the killing of Gopal in a missile attack.
Gopal’s wife, Ritu, said that she called her husband on March 18 around 9:30 pm, but after talking for about 20 minutes, the call got disconnected, and when she called back, the phone was switched off. She also tried to contact his husband’s friends in Riyadh but could not reach anyone.
After a day, Gopal’s friend Ram Niwas, who also works in Riyadh, informed Gopal’s family about his death. Gopal’s elder brother, Manmohan Dayal, stated that Gopal was working when he was buried in the debris from a missile attack.
Gopal was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A relative of Gopal who also works in Saudi Arabia is expected to reach the hospital to confirm his identification.
Gopal was the sole earner in his family and had a wife and a four-year-old son. His family urged the officials to assist them in bringing the body back to India and also provide compensation for his death.
Mehmudabad Sub-Divisional Magistrate BK Singh confirmed that the administration is in touch with the family, and officials shared the details with the government for further action.
Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs confirms the death of Ravi Gopal
Aseem R Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs, offered condolences to Gopal’s family and said authorities are coordinating for the early return of the remains.
Mahajan said the government received the information of an Indian national’s tragic demise during an attack in Riyadh late at night on March 18. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh shared a social media post that an Indian national was killed in the state on March 18.
