Vivek Oberoi wrote on X about a time when he was putting up a brave front for the world while completely falling apart on the inside. In that moment of total exhaustion, he did what he has always done. He went to his mother, sat on the floor with his head in her lap and just cried. He asked her the question so many of us have asked at our lowest points: Why me? Why is this happening to me? His mother’s response was not a pep talk or a cliche.
She simply stroked his hair and asked him whether he had ever stopped to ask why me when he was winning awards and when millions were cheering his name. That one question, he wrote, stripped away everything and spoke directly to his soul. He described it as the magic of a mother, the only person who can look at your deepest vulnerabilities and use them to rebuild your strength.
He also referenced a Japanese proverb about how we all have three faces, the one we show the world, the one we show close ones, and the truest face we never show anyone except perhaps our mothers.

Watching her with their children, he said, he recognises the same magic his mother gave him growing up, a space where their kids never have to pretend to be something they are not. He ended the post with a heartfelt thank you to his mother, his wife and every mother around the world.
