US Gas Prices Today: Rising crude oil costs are continuing to push up retail fuel prices across the country. March 20, 2026 marked the official start of the season, and motorists are already feeling the impact at the pump, with prices climbing by 28 cents compared to last week, according to AAA Fuel Prices website.

Crude oil prices continue to increase, contributing to higher retail fuel prices. The national retail average for a gallon of regular petrol was $3.925 on Saturday (March 21, 2026), according to AAA. That’s up from Friday’s average of $3.884.

The announcement by the White House to release 172 million barrels of oil from its strategic reserves over four months has no immediate relief on the oil market as the price of a barrel of crude continues to climb.
