If a foreign power attacks Pakistan, Islamabad will not remain silent. Pakistan will attack India in return. Abdul Basit, the former Pakistani ambassador to India, made such a bizarre claim recently.
Abdul attended a Pakistani media event. Speaking there, he said, “If America attacks Pakistan one day, then we will also attack India without a second thought. We will bomb cities like Mumbai, Delhi. We will not talk about it. It will be seen later.” However, Abdul also described this situation as ‘unlikely’. He further said, “If anyone harbors a hostile attitude towards us, then Pakistan will have no option but to attack wherever India wants. But we don’t want that to happen, neither does India.”
Note that from 2014 to 2017, he served as the ambassador of Pakistan. During this period many complications arose in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Significantly, Abdul made this comment in the middle of Pakistan’s bloody conflict with Afghanistan.
