Bangladesh intensified efforts to improve relations with BCCI
New Delhi: Bangladesh are now making efforts to restore their relationship with the BCCI due to their recent exit from the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh did not participate in the World Cup citing security reasons, but is now demanding an ODI series against India.
In this direction, Bangladesh has given priority to a possible series with India while postponing its scheduled Ireland tour. This decision has given rise to discussion not only on the cricket schedules of the two countries but also on the diplomatic situation between them.
Ireland tour postponed for series with India
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials said that Bangladesh was to tour Ireland in September 2026, but it has been decided to postpone it. According to sources, this step has been taken keeping in mind the possible limited overs series with India.
However, Cricket Ireland have clarified that they have no open windows this year, making it difficult to set a new date after September. Therefore, this series can now be held in 2027.
Hope to reach World Cup 2027 from series against India
It is important to note that the white ball series between India and Bangladesh will be extremely important for Bangladesh. Bangladesh aspires to get a direct entry into the upcoming ODI World Cup through this series. If Bangladesh is successful in defeating India in this series, they are likely to move from 9th to 8th in the ICC ODI rankings, making them eligible to qualify for the World Cup.
As per ICC rules, the top 8 ODI ranked teams as of March 31, 2027 will directly enter the ODI World Cup. That is why, Bangladesh wants to play this ODI series with India at any cost.
Dependence on India’s approval
However, India’s participation in this tour has not been confirmed yet. Due to recent diplomatic tensions, the final decision of this series will depend on government approval, due to which there is uncertainty regarding this series. BCCI will follow the instructions of the government in its work.
