India has got relief from the problems in LPG supply due to the ongoing tension in West Asia. A big ship carrying LPG from America reached New Mangaluru Port on Sunday. This ship named Pyxis Pioneer had left from Port of Netherlands, Texas on 14 February. It has reached India with about 16,714 metric tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). According to officials, this gas is being unloaded through Aegis Logistics.
Oil consignment also came from Russia
A day before this, Russian tanker Aqua Titan had also reached Mangaluru coast, carrying about 7.7 lakh barrels of crude oil. This ship was initially going to China, but changed its route and came to India. In recent weeks, India has started taking more supplies from America and Russia, because the traditional supplies coming from West Asia are being affected.
Oil being unloaded from offshore pipeline
The crude oil from Aqua Titan is being unloaded through a pipeline existing in the sea. This pipeline is connected to a jetty about 12 nautical miles from the coast and is being used to supply supplies to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).
Mangaluru is becoming an important energy hub
The importance of Mangaluru Port is increasing rapidly due to the continuous arrival of ships. There is also the country's largest underground LPG storage, which is operational from September 2025. It is built 225 meters below sea level and has a capacity of 80,000 metric tons.
India's strategy to secure supply
It is clear from the continuous supply coming from America and Russia that India is now adopting the strategy of meeting its needs by importing fuel from different countries. Before this, ships like Shivalik and Nanda Devi had also reached India. Overall, amidst the global crisis, India is busy securing its energy needs.
