Yogi government has increased the number and capacity of STPs in UP by 10 times under the Namami Gange project. 160 STPs are cleaning 5000 MLD water daily. Work is going on rapidly towards increasing the capacity to more than 1000 MLD in Lucknow.
Lucknow. Yogi government has worked at a fast pace in the last 9 years to make the rivers clean and pollution free in Uttar Pradesh. The number and capacity of Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) for the treatment of dirty water has been increased manifold.
STP Growth Uttar Pradesh: Capacity increased 10 times after 2017
Before 2017, only 5 STPs could be established under Namami Gange Scheme. At the same time, more than 50 new STPs have been installed during the tenure of Yogi government. This makes it clear that the number and capacity of STP has increased almost 10 times in the last 9 years.
UP Sewer Treatment Capacity: Treatment of 5000 MLD water daily at 160 STP.
At present about 160 STPs are operating in Uttar Pradesh. With their help, about 5000 million liters (MLD) of dirty water is being cleaned every day, thereby preventing pollution from entering the rivers. This achievement is considered much bigger than that of the previous governments.
Lucknow STP Capacity: 624.50 MLD water treatment from 9 plants
At present 9 STPs are working in the capital Lucknow, whose total capacity is 624.50 MLD. These plants already purify the water going into the Gomti River and its tributaries. These STPs are located at places like Bharwara, Daulatganj (urban and rural), Hathi Park, GH Canal, Vrindavan, UP Awas Vikas Parishad area and CG City. A plan is also being made to reuse the treated water coming out of these.
Lucknow New STP Projects: 3 under construction, 4 proposed plants
Construction of 3 new STPs is going on in Lucknow under Namami Gange project, whose total capacity will be 153.50 MLD. These plants are being built in Barikal, Loniyapurwa and Bijnor. Apart from this, 4 new STPs are proposed in Basant Kunj, Wazirganj, Jiyamau and Mastemau, whose total capacity will be 342 MLD.
Future STP Capacity Lucknow: Treatment capacity will be more than 1000 MLD
After completion of all these new and proposed STPs, the total sewage treatment capacity of Lucknow will exceed 1000 MLD. This will help in keeping the rivers of the capital more clean.
River Cleaning Before 2017: Earlier plans limited to papers
Before 2017, schemes related to cleaning of rivers were mostly limited to paper and the pace of STP construction was very slow. But the present government has paid special attention to setting up new plants as well as upgrading old STPs.
