Lord Shri Krishna says in Gita that to attain the kingdom of heaven man actually needs only to give up the fruits of his deeds. God has sent man into this life with hunger and desires in such circumstances that he has to work. Without work, human civilization would become a jungle of disease, famine and chaos. If all the people of the world give up their material civilization and live in the forests, then the forests will have to be converted into cities, otherwise the residents there will die due to lack of cleanliness. On the other hand, material civilization is full of imperfections and sorrows. So what possible solution was supported?
The life of Lord Shri Krishna reflects his philosophy that there is no need to run away from the responsibilities of material life. Problems can be solved by bringing us back to where God has placed us. No matter what the environment is, heaven has to come to the mind where there is contact with God.
‘O Lord, I do not want any heaven where you are not there! I would also like to work in an industrial factory, if I can hear your voice over the noise of machines. Material life without You, my Lord, is the source of only physical suffering, disease, crime, ignorance and unhappiness.’
To avoid both the extremes of renunciation of the world or immersion in material life, man should train his mind through constant meditation in such a way that it can perform the necessary duties of his daily life and at the same time maintain the consciousness of God within. All men and women should remember that if they add deep meditation to their daily routine of life, their worldly life can be free from endless physical and mental ailments. A life balanced by meditation and activity, free from attachment to the fruits of action, is an example of the life of Lord Krishna.
The message of Lord Shri Krishna in Bhagavad Gita is the best suited principle for our modern busy life surrounded by many worries. Working without God’s peace is like hell. Working with the ever-rising bubbles of God’s joy in your soul, wherever you go, is like having a walking heaven within you. Always being worried even in a pleasant environment is like living in hell, living in infinite inner self-bliss even in a dilapidated hut is the real heaven. Whether we live in a palace or under a tree, we should always keep this inner heaven with us.
If you live in the world and have no attachment to it, you are a true yogi. Not touching sugar candy while in the sugar candy store is a true sacrifice. However, milk will not float on water in any way unless you turn it into butter. Searching for God and living life according to His rules is the only path to happiness and salvation. Jesus said, ‘If your hand hinders you, cut it off.’ This kind of determination is required. You should experience this truth in your heart and soul ‘Lord, you alone are mine. I’m just here to please you.’
