Puducherry Government declares April 9 public holiday in view of Assembly polls

Puducherry will observe a public holiday on April 9. This is for the territorial Assembly elections. All government offices and businesses will be closed. Daily wage workers will receive paid leave. This allows citizens to cast their votes. Puducherry will elect 30 members to its Assembly on this day. The regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam will participate.

Government declares April 9 public holiday in view of Assembly polls
Puducherry: Lt Governor of Puducherry has declared April 9 a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act in view of the election to the territorial Assembly that day.

An order of the Home Department of Puducherry Administration issued on Monday said that the holiday has been declared for all government offices, institutions, local bodies, commercial and industrial establishments in the Union Territory (UT) to enable voters employed therein to exercise their franchise.

The Lt Governor also declared that April 9 would be a paid holiday for workers employed on daily wages in various departments of the government.

The UT will go to the polls on April 9 to elect 30 members to the territorial Assembly. While the Puducherry region has 23 Assembly constituencies, Karaikal has five, Mahe and Yanam regions have one seat each.
