Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested three persons for allegedly selling the banned drug MDMA in the city and seized contraband and other items worth Rs 4.37 lakh.
Based on credible information that MDMA was being sold to the public and students in the Pumpwell–Ekkur area using an autorickshaw, CCB police launched an operation on March 22. The police intercepted the vehicle and took three accused into custody.
The arrested have been identified as Haider alias Haider Ali, Mohammed Sajjad and Jason Menezes.
Police seized 26 grams of MDMA valued at Rs 2.5 lakh, cash amounting to Rs 37,000, five mobile phones, a weighing machine, and an autorickshaw bearing registration number KA-19-AC-2245. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 4,37,500.
A case has been registered at Kankanady Town Police Station.
Police said that Haider has previous cases registered against him, including obstructing police duty at Mangaluru East Police Station, a drug-related case in 2024, and an assault case at Ullal Police Station.
Officials added that more people are suspected to be involved in the drug supply network, and further investigation is underway.
