Tezzbuzz Desk- Popular messaging app WhatsApp keeps working on new features to improve the user experience. Now the company is preparing such a privacy feature, which will automatically disappear as soon as the message is read. This new feature has been named ‘After Reading’.

What is ‘After Reading’ feature?

The purpose of this new feature of WhatsApp is to give users more control over chat. According to the report, as soon as the receiver reads the message, a timer will start and after the stipulated time the message will automatically get deleted.

According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp development, a 15-minute countdown will start as soon as the message is read. After the time is over, the message will be removed from the chat of both the users. If the message is not read, it will remain there for 24 hours. The message will be auto-deleted even if not read after 24 hours. This feature is currently seen in Android beta version 2.26.12.2, but is not available for testing yet.

For which users will it be beneficial?

This feature will be especially useful for those who often share sensitive information, like OTP, password, address, verification code. This will reduce the risk of private information being saved in the chat history.

According to the report, this new feature will work even if the user has turned off Read Receipts (blue tick). This means that even without the blue tick appearing, the auto-delete process will start as soon as the message is read.

How is it different from Disappearing Messages?

Currently, Disappearing Messages feature is available in WhatsApp, in which options of 24 hours, 7 days, 90 days are available. But the new ‘After Reading’ feature will be different from this, because in this the message will disappear within 15 minutes immediately after reading.

When will this feature come?

At present, the date of official rollout of this feature has not been disclosed by the company. It is currently in the development stage and may soon be available for beta testing.
