IPL 2026 is just around the corner, and all the teams are in their final preparations to face the challenge in the mega event. But there is a major news coming out of the Mumbai Indians camp which has got all worried.
The most crucial player in the Mumbai Indians squad has yet to join the camp, and his whereabouts have got all worried. His absence from several events since the T20 World Cup has made things even more suspicious. With MI’s opening game just days away, the team management will be hoping everything is fine.
The mystery surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s CoE visit ahead of IPL 2026
Jasprit Bumrah, who was brilliant in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand and won the Player of the Match award for his four-wicket haul, has reportedly checked into the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru rather than joining the Mumbai Indians camp.
The Times of India reported the development but made it clear that it is not yet known whether he is there for an injury concern or just a routine visit. The CoE is a facility in Bengaluru that India’s top cricketers use for training, fitness work, and injury rehabilitation with a dedicated BCCI medical team working there full time.
What has really got people talking is that Bumrah was not seen at the post-match celebrations after the World Cup, skipped the BCCI awards night, and was also missing from MI’s pre-season event where Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya were both present.
It is also worth noting that KKR’s Akash Deep is currently at the same CoE facility recovering from a back stress fracture, which has only added to the speculation.
IPL 2026: Why Mumbai Indians cannot afford to lose Jasprit Bumrah
The reason why this news is affecting MI fans so much can be understood by merely going through the statistics.
Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup 2026 along with Varun Chakravarthy, with 14 wickets to his name at an economy rate as low as 6.21. In addition to that, Bumrah broke R. Ashwin’s records to become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cups with 40 wickets in four editions, including 4/15 in the final against New Zealand.
For Mumbai Indians, the story is just as remarkable, in 145 IPL matches since his debut in 2013, he has taken 183 wickets at an economy of 7.25, surpassing Lasith Malinga last season to become the franchise’s all-time highest wicket-taker.
He is also the only MI bowler to record multiple five-wicket hauls, doing it twice with figures of 5/10 against KKR and 5/21 against RCB. Entering IPL 2026 at INR 18 crore, Bumrah is simply irreplaceable for Mumbai Indians and his fitness ahead of their March 29 opener against KKR is everything.
