Recently, the Japanese car manufacturer Honda has taken an important decision, which will further strengthen its grip on the Indian auto market.

Japanese automobile giant Honda is all set to take a major step to strengthen its dominance in the Indian two-wheeler market. The company has announced the expansion of its ‘Tapukara’ project located in Alwar district of Rajasthan. For this purpose, Honda is going to make a huge investment of around Rs.1500 crores. The new production line at the Tapukara project is expected to be fully operational by 2028. The channel will have an annual production capacity of 6,70,000 units. With this expansion, the total capacity of the project will increase to 20.1 lakh units per annum. This initiative will create more than 2000 new employment opportunities in the region.

Honda’s expansion across India

Honda’s investment is not limited to Rajasthan; Rather, the company is expanding its operations across India. Currently, Honda operates 4 manufacturing plants in India with a combined annual production capacity of 6.25 lakh units.

The company is also setting up a fourth production line at its Vitthalapur project in Gujarat, which is expected to be operational by 2027. After the completion of these expansion projects, Honda’s total annual production capacity in India is estimated to reach 8 million units by 2018. Since 2001, Honda has produced more than 70 million vehicles in India.

Honda’s decision welcomed by Chief Minister of Rajasthan

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has welcomed this decision of Honda. He said the investment would further strengthen Rajasthan’s emergence as a major ‘manufacturing hub’ and boost the state’s automotive ecosystem. The new production line at Tapukara will mainly manufacture passenger motorcycles and scooters, the segments that are most in demand in the Indian market. The company is working towards its goal of becoming ‘carbon neutral’ by 2050 through measures such as the use of solar energy and water recycling.
