A goalkeeper in Sweden has been shot dead at the age of 20, with his father paying tribute in a heartbreaking statement. Aspiring footballer Hugo Mosshagen played for Swedish fourth-tier side BK Forward and dreamt of a successful football career.

His club and loved ones are now in mourning after he was killed in Orebro. Police were called to the incident in a residential area west of the city just before midnight on Saturday. The young player was then taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.

It has been reported via the Sun that Mosshagen had no known gangland affiliations and the shooting has left his heartbroken parents in shock. The keeper was the eldest of three siblings and is said to have enjoyed attending church.

His father, Joakim Gunnarsson, has since responded to the news in an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen. He said: "His big dream was to become a professional footballer. He put all his time into it and this year was going to be his year.

"It's an emptiness. One second you're really angry and the next you're sad because you've lost one of your children in a completely unnecessary way.

"A completely meaningless way. He saw everyone and talked to everyone and wanted to help as best he could."

Mosshagen's mum, Marie, added: "We feel that he is with God. We know that he is doing well up there. He had the responsibility. He did everything for his siblings. He was loved by many."

He was also a well-liked figure in the BK Forward dressing room, as per team captain Josef Ibrahim. He stated: "We will be strong and stick together. For the sake of Hugo and his family we will be there for each other and spread love."
