Assam: Pradyut Bordoloi steps down as MP, resignation accepted by Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has accepted the resignation of Pradyut Bordoloi. Bordoloi, an MP from Assam, recently left the Congress party. He then joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Speaker's decision was announced on Tuesday. Bordoloi had represented Nagaon constituency for two terms. He will now contest the Assam assembly elections from Dispur.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced that the resignation of MP from Assam Pradyut Bordoloi, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP, has been accepted.

Bordoloi, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nagaon for two consecutive terms on Congress ticket, resigned from the opposition party on March 17 and subsequently joined the BJP.

The saffron party a day later gave him a ticket to contest the forthcoming Assam assembly elections from Dispur seat.


The Speaker said the resignation of Bordoloi as Lok Sabha MP has been accepted with effect from March 20.

Bordoloi was a minister in Assam's then Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government for 15 years before being elected to Lok Sabha for two terms.
