Settlement. The anger of truck operators against arbitrary collection from toll plaza in Basti district has now come out openly. On Tuesday, a meeting of Truck Association officials was held under the chairmanship of the Additional District Officer (ADM), but even in this meeting a concrete solution to the problem could not be found.
Toll Plaza Manager, Additional Superintendent of Police, Area Officer Basti Sadar and Traffic Inspector were present in the meeting, despite this the anger of the truck operators did not seem to subside. The decision finally taken in the meeting also could not completely satisfy the truck operators. In the ADM meeting, it was only decided that half the toll fee would be charged from trucks at Madwanagar toll plaza. The association says that this is “not a balm on the wound, but a mere formality”.
During the meeting, Truck Association President Rajkumar Singh clearly said that “open robbery” is taking place in the name of toll plazas in the district. He alleged that extortion is being taken from vehicle owners against the rules and the administration remains a mute spectator. He raised the question in the meeting that how can two toll collections be justified in the same district.

This is causing double financial burden on transporters and traders. The association also alleged that the toll administration has barricaded all the alternative routes and cuts, forcing vehicles to pass through the toll plaza. Describing it as an “extortion conspiracy”, he said that it is a direct violation of rules and people’s rights.
Truck Association officials said that they have also gone to many public representatives regarding this serious issue. Sadar MLA Mahendranath Yadav, former MLA Rudhauli Sanjay Pratap Jaiswal and MP Ram Prasad Chaudhary have also been informed about the entire situation. Everyone assured support and solutions, but till now no impact is visible on the ground. Expressing his displeasure, he said that for the last 15 days he has been continuously making rounds of the officials, but every time he gets only assurance. Due to this, there is a lot of anger among the transporters and they are feeling cheated.
