A significant international airport has been hit in a drone attack.

Officials have confirmed that Kuwait International Airport was targeted by drones, sparking a fire on the premises.

The assault was verified to have occurred shortly after 2am (local time) on Wednesday, March 25.

The drones aimed at a fuel tank at the airport which resulted in the blaze.

Mr Abdullah Al-Rajhi, the official spokesperson for Competent Authorities, confirmed that there are no casualties.

Firefighters are tackling the flames at the country's aviation hub.

KWI remains completely closed to commercial passenger traffic, with no inbound or outbound flights, due to severe structural damage from previous drone strikes.

A statement posted by Kuwait's General Authority of Civil Aviation on X said: "Drones Target Fuel Tank at Kuwait Airport, and Competent Authorities Deal with Fire at the Site The General Authority of Civil Aviation announced today, Wednesday, that drones targeted a fuel tank at Kuwait International Airport, leading to a fire breaking out at the site."

The official spokesperson for the Authority, Mr Abdullah Al-Rajhi, confirmed that according to initial reports, the damage is material only and there are no casualties.

"He explained that the competent authorities immediately began implementing the approved emergency procedures, with firefighting teams and concerned authorities dealing with the fire, whilst all competent authorities are present at the incident site."
