Update on LPG: All gas refineries in the country are working at high capacity, 18700 tonnes of commercial LPG supplied.

New Delhi, 24 March. The central government said on Tuesday that all the gas refineries in the country are working at full capacity and till Monday, 18,700 tonnes of commercial LPG has been supplied.

Adequate stock of petrol and diesel available in the country

In an inter-ministerial press briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said that all the refineries are running at high capacity and there is adequate stock of petrol and diesel in the country. The government is also emphasizing on increasing PNG connections across the country.

He said that the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has directed the City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies to provide PNG connections in schools, colleges and Anganwadi kitchens within five days, where the facility is available. According to him, about 7,500 domestic and commercial PNG connections were given in 110 major areas of the country on Monday.

Sujata Sharma said that there are more than one lakh petrol pumps in the country and most of them are functioning normally, where adequate stock of petrol and diesel is available. He also said that every possible effort is being made to ensure the supply of LPG and the government is also working on increasing the sources of supply so that the situation remains stable. Also, an appeal has been made to the states to strengthen monitoring and systems. He said that there is sufficient stock of LNG in the country.

LPG cylinder delivery continues normally

More than 3.5 lakh domestic and commercial PNG connections have been provided in the first three weeks of March while LPG cylinder deliveries have continued normally and panic bookings have declined significantly. Keeping in view the current geopolitical situation, LPG supply is being continuously monitored, but there has been no situation of gas shortage anywhere.

Government appeals to people – do not make panic purchases

According to oil marketing companies, there is no shortage of fuel at any petrol pump and the supply continues regularly. The government has appealed to people not to do panic buying as there is adequate stock available. Priority is being given to essential sectors, in which 100 percent supply is being given to domestic PNG and CNG transport while about 80 percent supply is being given to industrial and commercial consumers.
