Ladies and gentlemen, Mohamed Salah has left the building. Well, not quite yet - but the man Liverpool supporters dub The King of the Kop is inching towards his Anfield curtain call and much like Elvis Presley before him, his influence has been so monumental, so epoch-making, that it's tough to envision the stage without him.

It wasn't exactly a total surprise with poor performances and rumours of problems behind the scenes marring Salah's season. But on Tuesday evening the shock news finally landed: Mo is set to go.

"Unfortunately, the day has come... I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season," Salah said in a heartfelt video posted on social media. "Leaving is never easy... you gave me the best time of my life... thank you for everything."

Whilst tributes to Salah will undoubtedly take centre stage at Anfield in the coming weeks, focus will inevitably start shifting towards an intriguing question: who, if anyone, can step into the Egyptian's colossal shoes? Here, Mirror Football explores what Liverpool's 'dream' front three might look like next season sans Salah.

Dream Salah replacement

Liverpool have been thinking about life beyond Mo Salah with question marks surrounding the forward throughout his latter years on Merseyside. Long-term targets including Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen and Nico Williams remain attainable but none quite feel like natural heirs to the throne.

Arguably, there's only one player whose arrival would feel befitting of Salah's legacy, influence and relentless goalscoring prowess - and that's Michael Olise. The Bayern Munich forward is in the form of his life right now, notching 16 goals and - remarkably - 27 assists already this season.

Like Salah, Olise is a left-footed right winger who excels when cutting in from the flank and is most lethal when drifting into that same half-space the Egyptian dominated at Anfield. In stylistic terms, the fit feels almost perfect. In practical terms, however, it is far from straightforward.

Simply luring Olise away from Bavaria would be a considerable challenge and persuading Bayern to relinquish one of their prized assets would almost certainly demand a record-breaking fee.

With Liverpool still reeling from the aftershocks of big-money acquisitions for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz failing to fully deliver in the Premier League, there may be understandable reluctance about taking such a substantial gamble for a third time in quick succession.

That said, Olise has pedigree in the Premier League, with three solid seasons at Crystal Palace before his 2024 switch to Bayern - and may ultimately prove worth the risk.

Dream front three

With Olise deployed on the right flank, Liverpool would possess one of the strongest attacking trios in world football. The French winger, who has formed a formidable partnership with Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena, would feature alongside Alexander Isak, who'd be positioned in the central striker role.

Isak has endured a difficult start to his Liverpool career, netting just three goals in 16 appearances before a broken leg prematurely ended his campaign. However, upon his return, the Reds will be hoping for a quick revival - a return to the clinical, prolific striker he was at Newcastle - with Olise's ingenuity and service potentially providing the spark.

On the left flank, Anthony Gordon would complete the trio - the lifelong Liverpool supporter who came close to joining the club in 2024. Relations with Newcastle may have become strained in the aftermath of the Isak transfer saga but Gordon's own ambition to move back to Merseyside could still prove crucial in any potential deal.

The England star would provide Arne Slot's team with two essential attributes: a direct, pace-driven threat down the left and a player with an emotional tie to the club - somebody who knows precisely what it means to pull on the jersey.

With numerous forwards already in the squad, Gordon's arrival would likely spell the end for Cody Gakpo and could even risk hampering the progress of Rio Ngumoha. But it would also provide Liverpool with something they haven't had since Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino were phased out: a genuinely balanced, multi-dimensional attacking line - speed, skill and cutting edge on both wings, with a focal point capable of converting the chances.

And in a post-Salah era, that might be the nearest thing to replacing the irreplaceable.
