New Delhi: Yograj Singh, father of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has lashed out against former India spinner R Ashwin over his latest comments on Arjun Tendulkar. Ashwin recently said that Arjun, who is part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad, will struggle to find a spot in the team’s playing XI in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Arjun was roped in by LSG in a trade deal from the Mumbai Indians (MI) in exchange for Shardul Thakur last year. The left-arm all-rounder will be making his debut for the Rishabh Pant-led side in the 19th edition of the tournament. However, he is unlikely to be a regular in the playing XI given the presence of some established names in LSG’s Indian pace pool.
LSG have the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav and Akash Singh in their pace unit, making it extremely difficult for Arjun to grab a spot in the playing XI. Ashwin pointed out the same in a video on his YouTube channel, where he said Arjun will not get a chance in LSG’s playing XI.
Though Ashwin’s argument was logical, as it will be indeed difficult for Arjun to make the cut in the playing XI, the former India spinner’s comments didn’t go down well with Yograj, who is known for his absurd, unfiltered public comments. Yograj lashed out at Ashwin for his remarks on Arjun, questioning the former India spinner’s credentials.
“He is talking bulls**t, this guy, Ashwin, whoever he is. He should know what to talk about somebody. Somebody’s sitting on the television and talking,’ Oh, he can’t do this, he can’t do that’. Who are you? What are you?,” Yograj said in an interaction with InsideSports.
Ashwin is one of India’s most successful spinners of all time and is the second-highest wicket-taker for the country in Tests. He retired from international cricket in December 2024 and has been actively running his YouTube channel where he speaks about various issues in Indian cricket, IPL and international cricket.
Yograj Singh makes audacious claim on Arjun Tendulkar
After his pointed remarks at Ashwin, Yograj continued his tirade and went on to make an audacious claim about Arjun. Yograj claimed he can make Arjun one of the best batters in the world if he is allowed to work with the left-arm all-rounder for just six months.
Recalling his conversation with his own son, Yuvraj, and other coaches who have worked with Arjun, Yograj said they are trying to make the 26-year-old a bowler, but he can develop as a batter. Yograj threw a challenge to Arjun’s critics, claiming that he can transform his game if given a chance.
“He is Sachin Tendulkar’s son, that is a different story. When he was here, I told Yuvi, that all of you are concentrating wrong on Arjun Tendulkar. He is not a bowler, he had a spine problem, and his hands come down from 45 degree. When he was here, I was talking to him. I told his coach as well when he was with the Goa team,” said Yograj.
“If you can’t do it. Send him to me, I challenge the whole world that if Arjun Tendulkar spends six months with me, he will surpass all the batters in this world. If not, I will cut off my beard and throw it,” he concluded.
Arjun has been part of the IPL for several years now, but has failed to make an impact. He was not a regular at the Mumbai Indians, warming the bench for nearly the entire season. Since making his IPL debut in 2023, Arjun has played only five matches in the league and has only three wickets and 13 runs to his name. It remains to be seen if he can get regular chances in the playing XI at LSG in IPL 2026.
